The Reoccupied Bunker, June 2019 in Hirtshals

Den genbesatte bunker 2019 The Reoccupied Bunker opens to the public on Saturday, June 1 at 12 o’clock. Everyone is invited and welcome to the opening.

The artwork reflects upon the power of words and of the meaning of propaganda in a war.

The Reoccupied Bunker is an art installation in bunker no. 42 in the Hirtshals Bunker museum. It is created by children and young people in collaboration with artist Inge Tranter, ceramist Janice Anee Hunter and sound artist Morten Poulsen. The bunker is open to the public every day throughout June, from 10-17 o’clock. Entrance is free.

Bunker no. 42 in the Hirtshals Bunker museum is located across the light house.

The Reoccupied Bunker is supported by BMMK, UMMK, North Denmark Region, Hjørring municipality, and in collaboration with Hirtshals Lighthouse, The Historical Museum of Vendsyssel, The Bunker Group, Frederikshavn School of Production, South Gate Writing Society, BGK Nordkraft Aalborg, The Nature Meeting 2018 and Hirtshals Town Anniversary.

Wish Boats by P.S.

Wish Boats is a performance by the artist trio P.S. which will take place at the Danish Culture Summit 2018, on the night of the 24th/ at 01-03 in the morning of Saturday 25th August in Klosterbugten, Nykøbing Mors aka the Culture Fjord. See details about the Wish Boats event on Facebook

The Performance group P.S. (Post Scriptum) work site-specific on the fjord in a long duration performance, which will have a ritual quality. Small paper boats with wishes and lights are released into the fjord from wooden boats that parade slowly through the black water. A man in a citrinitas robe and two scarlet figurines will light and release the boats that have been created and filled with wishes and dreams by passers-by.

At the Danish Nature Meeting taking place in Hirtshals on May 24-26 visitors can experience Sub created by sound artist Morten Poulsen for bunker # 42 in the Hirtshals bunker battery. Artists Inge Tranter and Morten Poulsen are available at the Nature Meeting:

Come and explore the strange-sounding plant names that we have in Denmark and listen to the nature in Hirtshals. We will be in tent number 34 in The Village and at the Lunchpack Room at the Hirtshals Lighthouse up the hill. We will alternate during the Nature Meeting, so when Morten is in the tent, Inge will be in the Lunchpack Room. You can go on a Sound Walk with Morten or imagine and draw a flower with Inge. Both Inge and Morten will be around for the whole of the Nature Meeting, where they will be able to tell you more about the bunker project. 

Children are asked to imagine and draw the flowers based on their names.

The drawings will be used for a series of porcelain sculptures to be created by ceramist artist Janice Anee Hunter and artist Inge Tranter. The sculptures will interpret the children’s ideas.

The Reoccupied Bunker will be the ‘culture light house’ for Hirtshals town anniversary in 2019. The Reoccupied Bunker is a collaboration between the artists:

Sub

SUB - sound installation by Morten Poulsen

We often think of the ocean as a silent place, but it can actually be quite a noisy environment. The sounds used in Sub were recorded with underwater microphones at a depth of approximately 8 meters, about 900 meters off the coast of Hirtshals, where the ferries and fishing boats are sailing. While we can choose to enter and leave this noisy environment as we wish, creatures in the sea have no choice but to live in it.

Sub will exhibited in bunker # 42 in the Hirtshals bunker museum throughout the Nature Meeting taking place May 24-26 in Hirtshals, North Denmark.

The sound installation, Sub is a precursor to the collaborative project The Re-Occupied Bunker, created by artists Inge Tranter, Janice Hunter and Morten Poulsen, which will be presented at Hirtshals City Anniversary 2019.

Magic Mandorla at Pilgrim Mors

Participants on the Pentecost pilgrimage on the North Danish island Mors will experience the Magic Mandorla performance when they reach Årbæk Mølle in the afternoon on Friday, May 25. EVERYONE is welcome to join, you just have to head towards the beach in the end of Årbækmøllevej by Ørding on Mors.

Anja Korsgaard in 2017 co-created the Magic Mandorla performance along with visual artist Andrew Zealey and dancer Rikke Steen Mapstone for the Culture Summit 2017, and it is the same group of performers who will be at it for Pilgrim Mors. Artist Malene Bang Zealey will further participate as a documentarist.

“The point of departure is the WW2 bunkers of the West Coast but the energy of the Mandorla remains relevant in relation to the contrasts and conflicts that are part of our time and are constantly messing with our balance and in demand of attention.

Magic Mandorla – Where We Create is a performance, a journey, a dream, a Jungian exploration of the Prima Materia.”

Everyone is welcome, the Magic Mandorla is not exclusive to pilgrims. The time of the arrival of the wanderers to Ørding determines the start time, probably around 16 o’clock. The full pilgrimage with overnight stays is fully booked, but you can still join individual days.

Mandorla – BunkerLove at the Cultural Summit 2017

magicmandorla-plan2017-betonAnja Korsgaard is orchestrating the participation of BunkerLove at the Danish Cultural Summit 2017 which is taking place in Mors, August 24-26. During the three days of the event she will be working with others at Kulturfjorden (point 53 in the program) to build the stage for a performance involving three performers. Bypassers and people with interest in BunkerLove are welcome to participate in the creation on the 24th starting at 16 o’clock, on the 25th at 14 o’clock and finally the performance takes place on the 26th at 10. Feel free to contact Anja in advance if you wish for an active role.

Andrew Zealey and Rikke Steen Mapstone will be the performers along with Anja.

Flower Bunker 2017 – A union of single socks

For the first BunkerLove Festival in Hirtshals in 2013, Inge Tranter transformed a bunker in Hirtshals into a fantastic garden filled with flowers and plants. For the Nature Meeting 2017 in May 18-20, the artist will recreate a flowering oasis in the midst of the bunker landscape, this time assisted by school children in the municipality of Hjørring.

Inge’s work for BunkerLove and the Nature Meeting is artistically supported by Andrew Zealey, Slavomir Baca, the historical museum of Vendsyssel and others and is financially supported by the municipality of Hjørring, BMMK and KulturKANten.

A union of single socks – Is there a sock monster in your washer?

bunkerstroempeSchool children will be given the opportunity to contribute any single socks that they have, and assisted by Inge, to plant and nurture flowers for the new bunker garden.

It is estimated that every Dane loses 1.3 socks every month, and why would this be different in any other sock-wearing nation?

Inge will be touring a few schools to engage the children in the creation of the artwork. In the week before the Nature Meeting the socks will be collected for plantation in the special bunker.

Bunker # 59 in the 10th battery, bunker museum of Hirtshals

bunker59-hirtshalsThe bunker which will be used for the garden will be the same as in 2013 and has the number 59. It was built in 1944 and is of the type Regelbau 671. It is a so-called ‘closed cannon position’ for a French 10.5 cm cannon. It is the northernmost of four cannon bunkers in the battery.

The French 10.5 cm cannons were moved from open to closed positions which caused a limited firing range of 120 degrees. In turn, the cannon had better protection from attacks. At this stage in the world war II, the Germans preferred a cannon with limited firing range over one which risked being destroyed during an attack.

BunkerLove wish to thank all the participants at our Ceremony for bunkers which took place on the 29th of October as a warm-up to the KK44 Festival in Silkeborg, Central Denmark. Special thanks to KK44 Festival, The Art Centre Silkeborg Bad, Silkeborg Bunkermuseum and the Nordea Foundation. Everyone exceeded all expectations.

Below are the official photos by Italian Andrea Valentini, who is also working on a video which will give an even better impression of atmosphere and of the radio bunker which housed äther as a most important part of the ceremony.

The radio bunker in the Art Centre Silkeborg Bad that housed äther by lydlandskab.dk for our Ceremony for bunkers is unique to the Atlantic Wall. Thanks to Hans Pape we were able to make a floor in part of the bunker, and thanks to the Silkeborg Bunker Museum the floor is still there, making the bunker accessible to the public without getting their feet wet… We will share the transformed inside too, the light in the dark, as soon as possible.

Ceremony for bunkers

We wish for peace, inside and around us.

The bunkers testify that war has been present even here. War is very present for the refugees for whom Europe share a responsibility. With this ceremony we will accept the bunkers and transform their function.

Two artworks for bunkers, namely the shooting star radio ‘äther’ by Lydlandskab.dk and ‘Be yond guilt’ by Anja Korsgaard will be tied together by the sounds of flute playing by Birgit Sofia Kjær.

The ceremony celebrates that we have Room to live in peace, freedom, love and harmony and reaches for the grandeur of the universe to be closer to the bunkers.

silkyBadWe will meet by the Art Centre Silkeborg Bad, by the blue sculpture Vann Mann, on the 29th of October at 16.30.  The ceremony is a walking and standing one, and takes about an hour. It is practical to wear warm clothes and rubber boots. We have some torches and you are also welcome to bring your own lantern. Tema RUM for KK44 Festival 2016

The ceremony is part of the warm-up for the well-established KK44 Festival 2016 working with the theme Space or Room. Next year the theme is Rethink. It is arranged by BunkerLove in friendly collaboration with Silkeborg Bunker museum and Art Centre Silkeborg Bad. The KK44 Festival program is quite extensive and in Danish, available at KK44festival.dk

Silkeborg Bunker museum is open on Sundays from 13-16 and on October 19th from 13-16. More info on Bumus event page.

In the art centre you can experience the sensual exhibition ”In the silent forest’ until December 11. For BunkerLove it’s a highlight that Suzette Gemzøe’s ‘Blue explosion in bunker’ is exhibited in the large room of the museum. Suzette participated with Transcendens Dilettante in BunkerLove Festival 2014.

The ceremony is free to attend and everyone is welcome.

Beach trip/ MEETUP Saturday July 16 at 15 o’clock

The BunkerLove Festival is CANCELLED but we would still like to meet by the bunkers in Furreby on (one of) the scheduled date(s), July 16, Saturday afternoon at 15. We will be around the middle of the battery. There will NOT be a program, but an opportunity to dip in the ocean, admire the bunkers, and to chat about the past, present and future of BunkerLove or to simply HANG OUT.

Andrew Zealey will bring some leftover paint from his work for BunkerLove in 2014 ‘life’s a beach/ highlights’, so we can play with that, and we will bring chalk and you are in general welcome to bring stuff that assist creativity. Children are of course very welcome too…

Anja Korsgaard and Nanna Thorhauge have opted to continue to work with the BunkerLove web site to express the new reality as an art project and will be present and open to input in regard to this task.

We will bring some drinks but please bring food and drinks for yourself if you wish to be on the safe side.

BunkerLove closes as an association and opens as an art project

Since 2012 the BunkerLove Association hosted 6 festivals in Furreby, Hirtshals and Grønhøj, and many more events and openings in North Denmark. The Chris Brock Photography series from 2013 entitled ‘Something’s Rotten in the State of Denmark’ was at 4 very nice locations; Nordkraft, Jammerbugt city hall, Hjørring Library and Museum center Hanstholm. Material sponsorships and cash for a million Danish kroner from Kulturpunkt 2013, Kulturkanten, Hjørring Kommune, Jammerbugt kommune, Aalborg University, Cembrit, Sadolin and many more, have been split into countless small chunks and into a lot of interesting work for a lot of people.

The artworks and performances created for the BunkerLove festivals have been incredible and make representatives stand very strong.

One of the major challenges for BunkerLove’s board has been and is to use our own as well as the forces of members and of good ideas, in a sustainable way.

We have decided to cancel this year’s festival, pay back the contribution from Hjørring municipality, Mads Mouritz is in a dialogue with the Danish Arts Foundation in regards to the concert means he’s obtained, and instead we will just meet and say hello on July 16 at 15 o’clock in the approximate middle of the bunker battery in Furreby…

The transformation of BunkerLove is to work through cells and representatives and to not have a coordinating board. BunkerLove will no longer hold a VAT number and a bank account. There is still plenty of opportunity to cooperate, to be a team and to work with professional financing, only it will not be the association but the parties involved who share and bear responsibility. Planning of BunkerLove Festivals can be done single-handed (with or without money), as well as with culture partners in the local community, region or state, or possibly more likely with established museums and associations who may even handle finances as part of their acts.

Reality

Looking ahead, ‘members’ can be representatives of BunkerLove in different contexts, areas or places. There are no requirements other than a common goal to transform the bunkers into works of art in the name of peace and love. Representatives have no obligations other than to invite each other through Facebook and/or website for public events which BunkerLove is part of, preferably in a reasonable time frame.

We will gather at least once a year to value and evaluate the condition of BunkerLove and to set a date and place of the next meetup. Statutes and framework will be changed to the new agreement and together with the artistic project will form the base of our meetups. The first meetup will be July 16 at 15 o’clock in the middle of the bunker battery in Furreby near Løkken, where everyone is welcome.

We welcome transformation and look forward to the beach trip on July 16 at 15 o’clock.

The board of BunkerLove on May 5 made a decision to close down our association as a legal entity, and to rather continue as an art project on a person to person-basis.

We’ll have to change our statutes etc. to no longer reflect that there’s a group of coordinators to handle any administration and collective fundraising etc..

One week ago we asked our members for their opinion on our future direction and we are happy to now share the response and to also ask for everyone’s opinion.

Invitation to Extraordinary General Assembly

On April 9 the board unanimously decided to invite to an extraordinary general assembly to decide on the chairman’s suggestion to close the association. The needed energy and motivation to work with BunkerLove as a legal entity, and to be responsible for the festival that was scheduled for mid July 2016, is no longer there.

Musical BunkerLove Festival 2016 – Mark the dates

Bouldering in Furreby near Løkken

SATURDAY EVENT: Aalborg Klatreklub, Platform 4 and BunkerLove celebrate the bunkers with some bouldering.

Aalborg Klatreklub, Platform 4 and BunkerLove present ’Løkken Boulders’ – a climbing competition on the old bunkers in Furreby, Løkken. The discipline is called bouldering and takes place up to 4-5 meters up in the air.

Bunkerlove will contribute to the event in the form of sound/ light art, particularly by Inge Tranter. During the day you can enjoy food and drinks and when the competition ends around 17:00, there will be a bonfire and soup until the sun sets.

The event is supported by the Municipality of Hjørring and carried out in collaboration with Vestevent.

Shaping the Land

BunkerLove and Platform 4 will be participating in the LandShape Festival in Hanstholm from 4 – 6 June, 2015

Bunkerlove is a series of festivals taking place in the bunkers along the Atlantic Wall. Our first festival, which took place in 2012, was in the bunkers on the beach in Furreby near Løkken in North Denmark and included a gilded bunker by Erik Peitersen. In 2013, Bunkerlove won the North Denmark Region’s Kulturpunkt award, and held festivals in Furreby, Grønhøj and Hirtshals. In 2014, Hirtshals and Furreby became established venues for the festival and we held additional events at a series of venues around the country:  Dome of Visions in Copenhagen, Hanstholm Bunker Museum, as well as a touring exhibition of the photographic series “Something is Rotten in the State of Denmark” by British photographer Chris Brock.

Bunkerlove will be providing a series of works for the Landshape festival from pre-existing and new works created for the festivals. Bunkerlove will be in a teepee kindly loaned to us by VestEvent/ Safe In Water. All the works will be presented in collaboration with Platform 4.

The Future

Dear friends

As you may have noticed, we have been rather quiet of late. We apologise for our silence and the delay in providing the minutes of our AGM, which can be now be found in Danish only. We have held two meetings since then, where a major point of discussion has been the creation of a cell structure for the future organisation of BunkerLove.

We have welcomed Niels Peter as a new member of the board of BunkerLove. Niels Peter, one of two managers at Platform 4 in Aalborg, is new to the board as our treasurer, but has been our amazingly practical and creative partner from the beginning of 2014. He has created the sketches above for a structure of BunkerLove in the future.

Our new board consists of Nikkie Dahm as chairperson, Inge Tranter as vice chairperson, Nanna Thorhauge and Anja Korsgaard as board members. Louise Kristensen and Lars Ditlev Johansen as substitutes and still curators for respectively the literary and drama parts of the festival in North Jutland. Of our outgoing boards members, Andi Debel and Gregers Kierkegaard are still our ambassadors in Copenhagen and Ellen Raunsmed in North Jutland. Thank you for the time and energy you have put into the board during your time with us.

BunkerLove will not be holding a festival in 2015, but we are planning a bumper festival in 2016. The break will provide time for us to organise and plan something more spectacular than our bunkers have ever seen before. Our forthcoming newsletters will be all about this in the coming year.

In the meantime, BunkerLove has been invited to participate in Region Nordjylland’s Land-Shape pilot festival in Hanstholm from 4-6 June. We are working on a program and more information will follow.

We would like to thank KulturKANten, Hjørring Municipality, LandShape and not least the many wonderful artists, members and individuals that have made BunkerLove possible. Thanks for all your help. We look forward to future collaborations and sharing more together.

BunkerLove exhibition in the Dome of Visions, Copenhagen, August 16-18

Please join the opening of ‘Together in small spaces’ which will feature My Body Your Room, a dance performance by Sandro Masai, which was created for the searchlight bunker at Furreby beach for BunkerLove Festival 2014.
Christian Skjødt who created Inversion for the same bunker last year will create soundscapes and Edit Vizer whose work Tilted was presented in Furreby last year will present her new interactive installation. There will also be a book show, poetry, photography and perhaps magic..

The exhibit opens on Saturday 16 August at 17:00 and will be running until 23:00.
It will be open until Monday the 18th from 10:00 – 16:00. Admission is free.

BunkerLove Free Festival Sunday 13 July 2014 15.00-22.00

On Sunday 13th July 2014 BunkerLove will be holding the BunkerLove Free Festival on the beach in Furreby near Løkken. All events are free and everyone is welcome.

There will be transport from the boat rescue station (where there are also toilet facilities 800m from the festival area) at the end of Nordre Strandvej at 14.45 and 17.00. Attached are our map and program for the day.

For BunkerLove 2014 Louise Kristensen wrote Leviathans Ryttere (Riders of Leviathan) which was published in web magazine (april 2014) Reflex p. 12 (and p.13-14), by poetklubben 57º Nord.

The text was the point of departure for her performance at the BunkerLove Festival 2014 in Furreby. Since march 2014 Louise Kristensen has been a part of the BunkerLove board and can be reached at mummiland@gmail.com. She collected the poets, authors and musical sidekicks for the grande poetic program of BunkerLove Festival 2014 in Furreby.

The essay ”Om at hele såret efter Anden Verdenskrig med kunst og kærlighed” (About healing the wound from WWII with art and love) was the result of Louise’s visit to the BunkerLove Festival 2013 in Hirtshals. Essay: Om at hele såret (pdf)

After 70 years of lashings from the harsh north sea, howling winds and rain and sand – like a million cat-o-nine-tails – these bunkers have paid their price. They are no longer the sentinals of evil. They are the reminders of an evil regime where one man’s madness can take over the world. This MUST not EVER happen again. We MUST work together. Stand side by side. For no one is better or worse than the next, and we need  to try to understand our enemies.

Today these bunkers are oozing out white calcium deposits from deep witin their core. They are being cleansed by nature from within their own building blocks. These white deposits have created patterns that somehow remind me of my paintings. I aim to ‘highlight’ these purgings with organic paint mixed with buttermilk and eggs. These ‘highlights’ will disappear gradually, depending on the weather and mother nature. My mark making aims to enlighten the healing process already taking place.

Nature’s power can heal all wounds of war and oppression given enough time but only if we nurture and not abuse her.

Rainbow BunkerLove Festival

Bunkerlove14_Flyer_ENRainbow BunkerLove Festival is the first festival in the BunkerLove season this year and it is filled to the brim with art, music and all kinds of surprises. All events are free and everyone is welcome to join us.

Vendsyssel Historical Museum will be providing tours of the bunkers and the artworks at 17.00, 19.00 and 21.00 (the last tour is by lantern light) but you are also free to walk around the bunker complex and discover the works for yourselves.

There will be a dance performance by Sigrid Norheim Ørntoft in collaboration with Marit Benthe Norheim for her work “Ruth“, a woman who experienced first hand the cruelty of the Nazi regime as a child of a German policeman. Marit Benthe Norheim will occupy the interior of the same bunker with her figurehead and film about Ruth. The piece is part of the Life-Boats project.

Dominik Blasko will be in another bunker with a piano concert. Meile Sposmanyte‘s powerful sound installation from 2013, 111 Buddhas can be experienced again in the ammunition bunker. Cathrine Ertmann will be turning the world outside her bunker upside down. And Anja Korsgaard will provide a tree for sinners to hang their penance on in the form of apples and hearts made of bunker concrete.

There will also be an opportunity to go down to the beach below the bunkers and Walk the Mile with Inge Tranter’s public participation piece involving 100 pairs of customised military boots. You can also make your own pair of boots and take them down to the beach to try them out.

Peter Max-Jakobsen‘s work Chronometer transforms a bunker into a porcupine-like structure, using the shifting coastal light to create a play of light and shadow.

Also cleared out and rediscovered is the Bunker Secret Site, which, although damaged, can now be viewed again. The work dates from 1995 and contains a secret chamber with something inside. All will be revealed in 2045, one hundred years after the end of WWII, but for now we will just have to keep guessing.

British photographer Chris Brock, who documented the festival last year with some unforgettable images, will be joining us again this year.

If you want to try your hand at a little photography yourself, poet and artist Kasper Anthoni will be supplying a DIY hole in the head board that you can take photos of yourself and friends in.

As the sun starts to wane there will be music from Ole Tersløse and Bjarke Rønnow from Platform 4 will be our DJ until the festival closes at 22.00.

Cafe Fisk in Tversted will be supplying fishcakes and rye bread from their “dellevogn” and Thomas Abildgaard will be there with his gourmet coffee stand where you can purchase coffee, tea, and cakes. Platform 4 will be supplying drinks from their scaffolding bar and the lighthouse cafe will be also be open during the day for refreshments and ice cream.

Please join us for another wonderful day transforming the bunkers of the Atlantic Wall.

Thomas Dahl – Sine Qua Non

Thomas-SineQuaNonHow differerent are we from one another when it comes down to it?
The German soldiers manning the bunkers on the Danish north sea coast during  WW II must have missed their loved ones, their friends and all those they cared about just as we do when separated from them for more than a few days. Can we find the common human traits that connect those soldiers and ourselves?

Explore the bunker to find out!

Sine Qua Non is a work that challenges and requires the audience to explore the depths of a bunker and their own inner self in order to put pictures, experiences and names on those that matters the most to us and for whom without life would be dull and meaningless and then try to take those emotions created therein and connect them to the past by imagining what it must have been like to be a german soldier far away from home, friends, family and loved ones. A guestbook for those who wants to share their thoughts on the subject will be present in the bunker and its content will later be published.

Thomas Dahl was born in 1973 in Aalborg, Denmark, works daily helping retired citizens and others, that for various reasons can’t themselves, with cleaning and doing their laundry. This is his first attempt at a public art project, and it will be at Free BunkerLove Festival in Furreby 13 July, 2014. It will be located in the former Gold Tooth by Erik Peitersen. The sand in the bunker needs some moving around ahead of the festival, and you are welcome to contact thomadahl@hotmail.com or info@bunkerlove.com, if you’d like to help out.

Tuesday 24 June there will be a BunkerLove opening at the Museum Center Hanstholm where ten of Chris Brock’s portraits from BunkerLove 2013 will be on show until 31 July.

At the opening, which starts 24 June at 16.00, there will be free entry to the museum and we will continue to work on Inge Tranter’s military boot installation, “Walk the Mile”, which will be a part of the ongoing festival series in Hirtshals 6 July and Furreby 13 July. We will also be showing “Ein Stern” and “A Mare” by Marcelo Felix in the cinema of the museum, and dramatist Marie Vibe will hold a bonfire speech without a bonfire, to celebrate Midsummer Nights Eve.

Walk The Mile – Workshop at Om:Form culture ferry

In English, the expression “to go the extra mile” means to go above and beyond the call of duty, to make an extra effort to ensure that something succeeds. The expression comes from the Sermon on the Mount in the bible, where Jesus says to his followers: “Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two.” In biblical times, Roman law stipulated that soldiers were allowed to force civilians into carrying their (very heavy) equipment for one Roman mile (81.473 metres). This practice was called “impressment” and was originally practiced in Persia before being adopted by the Romans. The expression is also closely related to the concept of “don’t judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes” to develop and cultivate empathy and understanding. Empathy is the ability to literally experience the world from another person’s perspective; to walk in their shoes, to view life from their living conditions and to feel what it feels like to be that person.

Jesus’s message was one of peace and reconciliation in the service of the fellow man, regardless of whether the relationship was one of friend or foe. The project taps into processes such as the Peace and Reconciliation process in South Africa in the wake of the ending of Apartheid and similar processes designed to promote transition from societies with internal conflicts and injustices to stable democracies. These processes are attempts to resolve conflicts left over from the past and break the cycle of former enmities in societies, undertaking a process of transitional justice which strives to address human rights abuses, establish reparations, create memorials and settle past accounts without derailing the establishment of a stable and democratic society, allowing former enemies to live in peace together.

The project is a collaborative process. Members of the public are invited to create their own design on the soles of a pair of used military boots. Linoleum, glue and tools to cut and carve will be provided so that participants can customise their own pair of boots. This took place on board the cultural ferry OM:FORM in the afternoon of 21 June during the Aalborg Regatta and at the Museum Center Hanstholm at 16 on 24 June. These customised boots were then moved to the beaches of the BunkerLove festivals in Hirtshals, 6 July and Furreby, 13 July and participants there were invited to put on a pair of boots and walk two Roman miles (which is roughly one mile by today’s definition of a mile – 1.63 km). The soles of the boots will “impress” the message of the creators of the boots in the sand of the beach, creating a mile of land art messages of peace and reconciliation created by strangers. The artwork is a part of our ongoing “Peace Army” project.” The boots are also part of BunkerLove’s exhibition at Kulturmødet Mors, taking place in Nykøbing Mors, August 21-23, and supported by the Land Art project Landshape.

Hi everyone

We are very pleased to be able to offer 5 BunkerLove events in collaboration with a wide range of partners:

On Saturday 21 June on the OM:FORM Cultural Ferry there will be a workshop with military boots – Walk the Mile – by Inge Tranter as well as an exhibition of Chris Brock’s portrait series, “Something is Rotten in the State of Denmark”, from the 2013 BunkerLove festival. The exhibition is staged in collaboration with a major North Denmark regional land art initiative LAND SHAPE, in connection with the Aalborg Regatta (16-22 June). Come and join us in making footprints in the sand. Marie Bjerg will be there as a voluntary assistant at the festival.

Tuesday 24 June there will be a BunkerLove opening at the Museum Center Hanstholm where Chris Brock’s portraits from BunkerLove 2013 will be on show until 31 July. We are, however, very pleased with the programs that have materialised for the festivals in Hirtshals and Furreby and that KulturKanten and Hjørring municipality are supporting the activities there.

Our Chris Brock Photo exhibition with portraits from BunkerLove 2013 is on display at Hjørring Library in February, Monday-Friday from 9-18 and Saturday from 9-15.

The 10 portraits which Andrew Zealey selected are placed in a circle (inside/ outside) connected to remains from Inge Tranter’s lovely ‘Cottage for Yemanja’, something extra to remember the flower bunker and festival series by. Inside it is our presentation film and guestbook.

The Something is Rotten in the State of Denmark photo exhibition will move to exciting (floating?) venues in Aalborg and Hanstholm in June and July. We have ideas for spring time too, but it’s more fun with collaborators, so don’t hesitate if you have ideas for where to take the exhibition next. Please write info@bunkerlove.com or here.

Our newest member, Mikkel Fox has offered to help us to build our Instagram following so that we can attract a younger target audience.

Mikkel Fox attended the beach party at the People’s BunkerLove festival in 2013 and wondered why there weren’t more people present who fell into his age group. So he has volunteered his services to expand our following on Instagram, an image-sharing application which has a younger audience. We are delighted to have him as a friend and spokesperson and we are really thrilled with his initiative in contacting us!

In extension of the opening of the BunkerLove 2013 Chris Brock photo exhibition in Turbinegalleriet in Nordkraft, Aalborg, ‘Something is rotten in the state of Denmark’, Chris Brock hosted an inspiring workshop in KULcaféen about taking portraits in a creative manner. In small groups we instructed and photographed each other, and in the end recreated our ‘poses’ into the above ‘group portrait’, which Chris created. He titled it ‘The Guru‘ and explains:

The en-lightened one surrounded by the worries, dramas and happinesses of the world. The politics, the sciences (that’s the astronaut), the love, the sadnesses and the worries. And all the time he shines a light on their concerns!
